Hey, I saw and read about quite a bit of it. And the article that led to our exchange, by David Ignatius, goes over quite a bit of it, but ends on the note that "no good deed goes unpunished."
What we are after, from our POV, is a Middle East that is not a hotbed for Terrorists, does not make WMDs, does not oppress their people, and does not screw up the oil supply.
If we end up with ME countries that are a model of Democracy and act like a suburb of Peoria, that's great, but not the primary thing we need.
Can we succeed at this? Never been tried before, and the odds are long. But after 911, we have to try. |
