LOL, I see your assessment as silly and equal to the value of any observations in moore's book about the opinions of those on the ground.

In any war, or game or any execution of a complex plan there will always be those who are critical Monday morning. The analysis they provide after the fact may on it's face seem compelling. But just as all we saw isolated snap shots of the war in Iraq. Often post analysis is focused, and lacks consideration of the far wider complexities.

Professionals think logistics.

Always the logistics and physical or environmental factors go into the complex decisions of a course of action. I wonder if those who are so critical consider all or as they appear, very to completely ignorant of the big picture.

In material and support, ground and air, I'd say Iraq was 100 to 1000 to 1 better than Afghanistan.

Consider Iraq was flat with no places where helecopters were at the edge of flight capability. The distances to support bases was several hundred miles in Afghanistan. How much 24x7 support was available and what was the time from identified need to getting needed support.

In Iraq planes could vector in from the south or the north or across Jordan in the west. Early on major Air Bases were captured adding additional much lower lag time air support or rescue or reinforcement. In particular helo and warthog response times were quite different.

Also special forces did not have to dress like Eskimos.

And clearly the enemy forces in Iraq were not mostly nutsoes but most were conscripted who just wanted to go home.

I cannot conceive of why anyone would think that Iraq and Iran were so alike from a logistic perspective that they would then conclude that some direction from the top would alter the attack strategy of using special forces or not.

The evolution of the war plan in Iraq was based upon the total different logistic character of the war in Afghanistan and the war in Iraq. And also upon the completely different nature of the enemy, and the goal of saving infrastructure that was non existent in Afghanistan.

Do you see the silliness of your observation?
" After Afghanistan, Rummy gave him the word, "my way or the highway." And he "yessired" and ran a good combined op in Iraq. "

So I completely disagree with your observations. But don't fear anyone would consider you for idiots.mine.nu That is a place where those who make it are motor mouthing severely disturbed individuals with no redeeming social value.

The links there are to posts that I would think any reasonable person would consider putrid. And the few links there are only of small sample of the yield from those there.
