You mix up two things that should be kept separate.

One is trying to gather facts by reading, and judging the credibility of the authors, then making one's own judgment on the facts.

Another is buying into somebody else's opinion without factual basis. The post you responded to had no factual basis at all, but was pure opinion. You bought into that. Which you are free to do, but I wouldn't do myself, and am free to criticize.
