The end of democracy is only in sight when people stop protesting its deterioration and undermining by those who would twist it for their own purposes.

It's true that democracy is inherently unstable. By definition, dictatorships offer more control over short periods of time. But how many dictatorships have outlived the democratic tradition born in Europe and the US in the 18th century and before?

None that I know of. A few monarchies like Jordan and Swaziland may go back that far but I am not sure. Certainly no country of any size or importance.
