Independent Tests Confirm That VERITAS Offers Faster, More Reliable
Disaster Recovery

VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the leading storage software
provider, today announced that VERITAS Volume Manager(TM) software mirrors
data to a secondary location as much as 72 percent faster than SRDF
replication software from EMC Corp., according to independent benchmark test
results issued today by the GiantLoop Testing and Certification (GTAC) Lab,
based in Waltham, Mass. VERITAS Volume Manager is the world's leading volume
management software, and VERITAS Volume Replicator(TM) is the fastest growing
replication software among the top ten storage software vendors, according to
a recent Gartner market share report.(i)
The benchmark, performed using test environments that emulate typical
enterprise-class data center networking configurations, also revealed that
VERITAS replication software mirrors data more reliably than EMC software. In
tests, VERITAS replication software prevented data corruption and loss through
a logging mechanism that ensures data is written to a secondary disaster
recovery site in the exact order it is recorded at the primary site, even in
asynchronous mode. This logging feature, which EMC does not offer, makes
certain that data at the secondary site is recoverable, and that organizations
can replicate over any distance without risking the integrity of their data.

distances less than 200 kilometers. For greater distances, where Internet
Protocol (IP) is employed for wide-area disaster recovery, users may simply
unlock VERITAS Volume Replicator(TM), the IP replication option to VERITAS
Volume Manager.
The tests also demonstrated that VERITAS replication software offers
better application performance than EMC software in database environments.
