Extended Stay America, Inc. Opens in Fresno

Extended Stay America, Inc. (NYSE: ESA) has opened its first property
in Fresno, at 7135 N. Fresno Street. The rapidly growing chain of
extended stay lodging facilities is developing properties nationwide.

According to President and Chief Executive Officer George D. Johnson,
Jr., "The extended stay lodging market is the fastest growing segment
of the hotel industry, and is quickly catching the interest of business
professionals, people relocating and those on extended work
assignments. Extended Stay America facilities are filling a void that
exists for today's value-conscious travelers."

The 120-room, three-story property incorporates an exterior corridor
and is situated off of Freeway 41. The property is just minutes from
California State - Fresno and the Fashion Fair Mall.

"Extended Stay America's appeal reaches beyond the business and
corporate community. Besides being ideal for workers on extended or
temporary assignments such as consulting, employee training or
construction, our properties are perfect for people building homes,
relocating or attending family functions. We operate high-quality,
affordable, properties while serving the community's travel needs,"
said Mike Wilson, Vice President - Marketing.

Each room is fully furnished and includes a queen-size bed, recliner,
television with cable, remote control, telephone with voice mail, a
computer data port and free local calls. Additionally, each room has a
kitchen with a refrigerator, two- burner range, microwave oven, coffee
maker, utensils and tableware.

The property also features an on-site laundry facility and vending
machines. Guests are provided with weekly housekeeping service and
twice-weekly towel service. Properties are generally staffed by five
to six full-time and eight to ten part-time employees.

Weekly room rates are $259 and are a fraction of the cost you'd pay
elsewhere for similar features. Nightly stays are also available at
$49.

Extended Stay America, Inc. was founded in January, 1995, by Mr.
Johnson and H. Wayne Huizenga. Mr. Johnson was formerly President of
the Consumer Products Group of Blockbuster Entertainment Corp., a
division of Viacom, Inc. Mr. Huizenga, who is Chairman of the Board,
also is Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Republic Industries,
Inc., and formerly was Vice Chairman of Viacom, Inc., and Chairman and
CEO of Blockbuster Entertainment Corp.

The Company currently operates 120 extended stay lodging properties,
which includes 41 Studio Plus Hotels, 78 Extended Stay America
Efficiency Studios and 1 Crossland Economy Studios facility. As of June
30, 1997, the Company had 98 facilities under construction, and options
