Mosel-Vitelic To Intro EDO DRAM For DVD

By

Mosel-Vitelic Inc. today will introduce a 512-Kx16 EDO DRAM for DVD, graphics frame-buffer, and peripheral applications.

The V53C818H chip minimizes microprocessor wait states by providing 30-ns row-address strobe (RAS) access and 12-ns cycle times, the company said. Pin-compatible with the 256-Kx16 DRAM, the chip is available in 40-pin, 400-mil SOJ and 40- or 44-pin, 400-mil TSOP-II packages.

Mosel-Vitelic, Hsinchu, Taiwan, said a pair of the 8-Mbit chips can replace four 4-Mbit chips in a 32-bit-wide MPEG-2 buffer memory, cutting total system costs by 15% while reducing board real estate.

Priced at $6.25 in 1,000s, the 30-ns V53C818H consumes only 230 milliamps during EDO page-mode operation and only 2 mA in CMOS standby. The chip is also available in speed grades ranging to 50-ns RAS access times and up to 19-ns EDO cycle times.
