llmarinen, "I'm sure you remember the days when the USA congress approved a bill on making it somewhat illegal to directly participate in assassinations in foreign lands" I remember. I would say that Osama bin Laden and el-Qaeda has been instrumental in conveying that policy into the dustbin of history. They murdered 3,000 Americans. By their actions and their statements they have declared war on us. We have no choice but to oblige them and do what is necessary to neuter them politically and militarily. No goverment can fight an enemy with it's hands tied behind it's back. Under the circumstances assassination, regrettably, becomes a legitimate tool. It is specific in it's targeting with a relatively small chance of injuring civilians. Given the choice of neutralizing avowed murderers and terrorists or rolling over and playing dead I choose the former.
