MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 29 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
VERITAS Software Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTS), the leading storage software
provider, today announced a new rapid assessment service from VERITAS(TM)
Consulting Services, designed to help existing Legato Networker users easily
migrate to VERITAS(TM) NetBackup(TM) software, the industry's No. 1 backup and
recovery software, according to Gartner(1). The rapid assessment service is
offered in conjunction with VERITAS Consulting Services' backup and recovery
migration service.

VERITAS Consulting Services now offers a low-cost, risk-free rapid
assessment of an organization's business needs, existing infrastructure and
service-level requirements, to address the benefits of migrating to VERITAS
software. The purpose of the rapid assessment is to uncover areas for
improvement and outline a targeted plan to simplify and consolidate the
organization's data protection applications, resulting in lowered costs using
VERITAS software products and services.

Once a customer has chosen to proceed with the VERITAS migration service,
VERITAS Consulting Services delivers a detailed migration plan, using a
methodology of best practices for removing legacy backup software from their
systems, converting old backup media to the new format, and implementing any
changes to the existing infrastructure, if necessary. The final step in the
service is to migrate servers to the new software, and train staff on how to
use the new environment based on industry best practices and procedures.

"In the current economic climate, many organizations are evaluating their
backup and recovery software to determine if it will scale to meet increasing
pressure from managing growing amounts of data, and to help meet regulatory
requirements with limited resources," said Bob Maness, senior director of
product marketing, VERITAS Software. "This new rapid assessment from VERITAS
Consulting Services uses a best-practices methodology to help customers
quickly determine the business and technical benefits of migrating from their
old system to VERITAS NetBackup, the industry's leading backup and recovery
software, getting the benefit of simplified management of data protection in
heterogeneous environments."
