What is your state's sales tax? Also most taxes on spending are at the state level not the federal level. If you think they are too high complaining about Bush or congress won't help.

Re: Gates -- don't forget that a lot of people at the bottom have zero net worth.

Fine, but even if the bottom 25% have a net worth of $0 in total. That means that the 25th to 50% would have to have a net worth of $640 each. That seems unlikely. Some of them would have zero, a few negative after debt but many own homes with a decent amount of equity and retirement accounts.
