It might be that Silicon Valley is in the midst of pricing itself out of the market. Pricing itself back into the market sounds like a smart thing to start doing.

How naive, really John.

Take your average grocery store worker, and ask them to design and code some fault tolerant middleware, with no real guidelines as to how this needs to be achieved (these guys should just "know")

Or conversely, ask your average ivy league person to work 60 hour weeks for less than 70K/year for their entire lifetime

Or (3rd option) dump your core technology offshore and hope it doesn't get cannibalized ala Huiwei

any of these sound good to you? I'm really tired of all these trite answers from the options expensing crowd. The reality is, you want to invest in Cisco but can't right now due to their corporate structure which is dilutive. You WISH that you could get all of the cisco productivity without the risks (outlined above - btw the offshore dump is the most serious risk) - therefore, you trivialize the options as if the perfect outcome is easily achieved. That way all the individual investors on this thread can cash in for the easy money that investing in cisco would surely be without options (you have the legacy of the past to propel you for awhile so no need to be concerned with the long term), for the first 3 years or so.

An attitude like this is no better than the shorts that secretly hope for some catastrophe to bring the mkts down so they can cash in on a personal level.

Its obvious what the rules are here, and you are ignoring them. you have the option to move on, that would be preferable imo.
