Colin Powell handled the Senate committee on foreign relations last evening on CSPAN, it was an interesting segment and points to the winds of change blowing toward State. Powell wants a re engineered foreign Service, new blood to replace old blood. During the program The committee was handled by Powell in a very direct way, they in fact were deferential to say the least. Lincoln Chaffee of RI seemed like the only member of the committee who did not appear as if he was on the team, he seemed not only unsure of Powell but of his own role on the committee.

Chaffee posited without a reply from Powell; that because of China, the issue of Taiwans admission to the WTO, should be held back, then further posited that this might be a useful tactic to appease China and move them towards US positions on nkorea.

This is real Politic by someone whose values disconnect with history in such a way as to submit any preexisting treaty or political agreement, to relativisms of the moment. Anyone else happen to see and hear this? If so what was your take?
