It's difficult to tell my son that I taught 1st and 2nd grade, before he was born. My job now is to be parent. I taught actual elementary school in Los Altos, CA, and it was a wonderful!!!!

There were three classes in each grade. This morning, I was telling the story of teaching the classes about elections. There was a nominee for each class for Prez, and one for VP. I will not go into details, because it was very long and involved. But, to summarize, there was an actual election, and what I thought of this morning, was the parents. They put together elaborate campaign props for the election. There weree printed bumper stickers, and other similar props. As we put together our little shoebox for school, I was impressed that he was able to do that on his own. It was great. I am so impressed at his imagination, and creativity.

He loves my stories. I student taught in Indiana, and my class wrote letters to my mother's class in Menlo Park. My class received very little for Christmas, while my Mother's class was just the antithesis. Her class, was from the the part of the Silicon Valley where my family was: Palo Alto, Menlo Park, Atherton, Portola Valley, Woodside, Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. They were never without material possessions. My little class was in rural Indiana, and was opposite of my upbringing. But what a great lesson on life that was and it was one to pass on! It was very grounding!
