i'll tell you what i did during the internet boom - and of course this may not apply today as picking anything back then made money - i bought 5 stocks, as those increased i sold off enough to buy another stock and keep my original starting point in the original 5, this worked as the markets went up in quickly and in a short time i had 12 stocks going - of course the bubble came, i lost, parred down those 12 to a different starting 5 and have been sitting on those a long time now - i haven't been following your conversations on what you are trying to accomplish - if you want to buy/hold/and wait it out then how about DRIPS in those stocks that interest you - buy 1/2 now then monthly investments with the other 1/2 - if you need to be able to pull it out at any time obviously this is not the way to go - good luck
