Sam, here is a post with a very negative view on DSS from the Yahoo thread:

"1)They're not cutting costs, (especially at the perpetually bloated executive level.)
2)The 600GB said to be releasing in the "summer period", will be late fall at best. Won't realize any revenue until mid C2004.
3)The Benchmark 160 is a disaster at OEM's. Released too early, like SDLT220.
4)Benchmark 80 is merely replacing some DLT business, but at a much lower price.
5)STK has a very good case on patent infringment. Quantum's counter is a smoke screen.
6)Tape continues to whither while LTO kicks Quantum's over paid executive rank butt.
7)HP (aka Compaq) was Quantum's biggest OEM. They are now, naturally, aggressively moving to LTO. Even in the very libraries that Quantum is trying to provide! Can you say "diminishing media royalties"?
8)Buying Bencmark allowed them too just barely keep revenue up. Otherwise...
Meanwhile, Rick Beluzzo has time to moonlight with a Zig Ziglar motivational speaking circus as the "former President of Microsoft and business leader". Wonder if he'll cover the smoke and mirrors of "GAAP" financial reporting vs. "Non-GAAP" or the numbers that include his bonus as a misc expense.
Quantum is poised for the future with continued efforts in cost cutting and exciting new products to meet the needs of enterprize storage customers. Growth will be flat to down for the forseeable future however. mmmmmm...."

What do you think, DSS as a underachiever for months (years) to come, headed by a very expensive and not really performing management?

Michael
