"You can't blame either on changing gender models."

Dissing the core family model has had a major impact on the reasons why Hunk and Dorie are in the situation they are in.

Dorie was told to get rid of the dork when it wasn't romantic anymore and they were having problems in their relationship.

Hunk was told to fork over the maintenance money and child support but after a while he was wondering how the situation provided any mutual benefit for him. Dorie had new admirers around which meant he wasn't comfortable showing up at the old homestead. For a while they worked things out so that he could see the kids at his apartment in a near by town.

Things went from bad to worse from there. Hunk had always thought of himself as a family man. He tried to form an independant identity as a striving corporate man. He wasn't able to define good reasons for being a success in his job. At work he began to see his skills discounted and he was passed over when promotions were under consideration. The force was with people of status. The dead end career offered less and less incentive to strive and thrive in corporate America. After the support deductions he did'nt have enough left to support himself, let alone do things with his kids. His low motivation and lessoning work ethic eventually landed him a position on the I25 on-ramp holding a card board sign.

Dorie isn't the fox she once was and the stress of trying to maintain a place to live has taken its toll. That dead beat, Hunk, is no longer sending checks. She tried to get into some job training but realized she would have to abandon the kids to service organizations in the process. She struggled with the logistics for a while but eventually became too depressed at the monumental complexity of it all. She realized that even if she were successful she would not have the kind of home that would provide for her and the kids. She occassionally has anxiety attacks and is thankful for the aleviation crack brings her. Course she has gotten addicted and the only way to keep the supply coming is via her pimp.
