I am trying to see your case here...but perhaps you need to develop it further. I can't see what good can come to the Iranian mullahs if Najaf regains its footing as the center of Shia thought. And as you are aware, there is little need for Iranian agents because ideological similarities will see to it that there is sufficient Iraqis there who will act on their own accord to establish a Shia state. For the most parts the argument for "Iranian Agents" has been they do it out of spite of America. But that argument does not stand close scrutiny. I am all ears to hear both the whys and the hows of benefits to Iranian mullahs in establishing a strong Shia state in Iraq.

As to the issue of creating instability, that is quite a separate issue than creating another Islamic republic. The only reason for Iran to look at such outcome favorably is if it becomes clear that US will not allow anything but a highly pro-US-anti-Iran regime in Iraq. A neutral regime will serve the Iranian clerics best, IMO.
