yes, David, Ascend and Ejabat made those statements and they lived to regret having relied on representations made by ROK, you can be sure. The "According to Ascend" comment was a misinterpretation, I believe, of what was actually meant - that the box that started shipping on 11/1 was the item that was 56K *capable* (which doesn't mean that it had 56K modems, only that it was set up to receive them when shipped. I believe the reference was to the TNT. I also admit that the 2 preceding sentences have put me out on a limb and I'm only mildly uncomfortable out here.
And one statement was perhaps stretching their technical capabilities or someone's when the "we'll be the first" remark was put out; that's what I think and I think they got bitten as a result. At the time Herb Greenberg (SF Chronicle) not only questioned it but also quoted an unnamed ROK spokesperson essentially saying "he said what???"

But while the statements came to haunt them I don't think any instance was a matter of deliberate lying or FUD or whatever you folks have implied in the past. I can be persuaded otherwise but it'll take some inside information to make that case.
