Has anyone read "The Great Boom Ahead" by Harry Dent(?). Very interesting reading. Here is a synopsis, It came out in about 1992 and predicted that from about 1994 to about 2010 the stock market would see the greatest rise in it's history due to the Baby Boom factor. I know that alot of you have heard of this as a factor before but Mr. Dent shows some impressive research to back it up. He claims that the single biggest affect on the economy is consumer spending and that adults spend the most money between the ages of 47 to 49. This data is similar to the actuary tables that life insurerers use and is very reliable. He then charted the S&P vs. birth rates, shifted by 48 years to reflect the peak buying years. The two tracked VERY closely for as far back as he charted. It also showed that the stock market should explode over the coming years, which it has. it also showed that a MAJOR downturn is in the cards some time after 2005. Not every prediction in his book has proven out, IE. recession in 93-94, but big picture he's been right on. I do believe that he predicted the Dow would reach at least 8000 before it was all said and done, which we've already achieved so who knows how much further we can go.
