That's why the critical question is just how it gets pictures. If the Dems are capable of picturing it as an issue of tolerance, it will help them; if it's pictured as you suggest, of course, it won't.

Actually, I don't think it's going to move a great many votes. The only way it does that is if the Dems could patch it with the winking and nodding to southern racists to successfully depict this embodiment of the Reps as bigots. De Lay. Ralph Reed, and their ilk would be front and center as the picture of the party.
