I think Safire's column "nails" the Israeli/Pal situation. We finally have a diagram with no holes for the Pals to pop through. Sharon will be able to force his Gov to perform if the Pals do.

The key is Syria. They must back out of Lebanon, so that Hizbullah loses their support. Without that, there is no way Abbas can stop the terrorism, even if he really wants to.
