My guess is they were cutting it live from the cable office, and it was someone who was told what to do, but wasn't experienced.

Besides, it was on the internet, so it must be true.

Hill & Knowlton setting up or influencing blogs...yeah, I bet they are starting to do that. I would expect them to put out carefully crafted urban myths, like the incubator story, rather than factoiods.
