OT: did you try Woodford Reserve yet?
I'm saving my drinking for this weekend, as it's time for the Kentucky Derby here.
I've not looked at the racing form yet, but I'm told by many that Empire Maker is going to be hard to beat. But that's what they always say about the favorite, who usually doesn't win. The last favorite to win was Fusaichi Pegasus in 2000, but he was kind of a freaky and exceptional horse. Some fuss is being made over Buddy Gil, but a gelding has never won the Derby. And today I heard some chatter about Outta Here which has been bred to run the distance and is the only one to have run the mile and a quarter, but he's at 50-1 right now. D Wayne Lucas has trained several Derby winners, but his horse Scrimshaw has the far outside post position and will have to move ahead early to have a good run in the pack. So in other words, I have no horse picked right now.
In the meantime, here's a mint julep recipe for you. First get out the ingredients which are crushed ice, fresh mint leaves, confectioners sugar, and some fine bourbon. Combine the mint and sugar and grind it to a past-like consistency and then add ice and garnish with another fresh mint sprig. Then throw away all these other ingredients and drink the bourbon by itself. <G> |
