Thanks for the clarification. My perception was obviously skewed by the sensationalism of the local press coverage.

However - to be fair - the violence was not all Israeli on Palestinian. I can also recall some Israeli settlers being ambushed and the mob murder of 3 Israeli IDF who took a wrong turn and ended up in a Palestinian jail.

Suffice to say that this thing unfolded like a good old fashion feud - small insults lead to bigger insults lead to violence leading to greater violence. Until at last the problem has taken on a life of it's own and the initial triggers cease to have any relevance.
