Nokia 6650: Coming Soon Commercially

Lars,

I posted your link to the Svenska Dagbladet article on the Nokia TMF board.

svd.se

RP99, a Finn, offered this translation or summary:

>> Some points from the Swedish article:

*Tele2 has about 200 000 customers in Luxembourg (population somewhat lese than 400 000)

*The 'killer application' for 3G in Luxembourg is expected to be, for the start at least, voice – the current GSM network is used to the limit and Tele2 is hoping to get people to give up their fixed line phones all together and go mobile. Building the necessary additional capacity should be considerably cheaper using the 3G technology.

*A soft launch, for the start there was only a few hundred handsets to be offered for the customers, the fist phones are made by Motorola, NEC and Nokia (6650). After some more tests SonyEricsson's Z1010 will be added to the list in a few weeks time.

*Kari Tuutti, Nokia Mobile Phones: “We test our 3G-phones with every telecom building a 3G network. Now the phones and networks are ready enough for us to launch 6650 for consumers during the current quarter”

*Tele2 intends to launch their Swedish 3G network at the end of 2003 or the beginning of 2004 <<

The most interesting point to me was Kari Tuutti's comment:

Now the phones and networks are ready enough for us to launch 6650 for consumers during the current quarter”

This is pretty consistent with what Nokia has been saying since late last fall.
