I guess because he doesn't tow the line on the whole Zionist ideology he's untrustworthy?

The right question to ask is, what ideology does he toe the line on, and boy, there is one! I suggest reading historians from all over, the kind who quote original sources at length, a good indicator that original meaning is being conveyed fairly. Michael Oren's Six Days of War is a good book.

I remember well the last time I heard Finklestein. It was when some British academics had conceived the bright idea of boycotting Israeli scholars and had rejected an Israeli's paper on the grounds that he was Israeli. The BBC, in one of their more surreal matchups, had the author of the rejected article, ironically, a leftist himself who had co-authored the rejected article with a Palestinian, debate the subject with Finklestein. The far left debating the radical left, the BBC's favorite sort of Israelis. The rejected author said plaintively that he wasn't from the bad part of Israeli, and Finklestein said firmly that it didn't matter. One really gets the impression that the radical left is all for discrimination so long as they get to pick the groups to be discriminated against.
