I know Grafenwöhr from (sort of) far away, drove around it for years without realizing what's all in there. Oberpfalz - strange, solitary part of Germany, but not very far from anywhere

Grafenwohr's history goes all the way back to Nazi Germany (and to the Bavarian Army prior to WWI) where, along with Hohenfels, most of the Elite panzer divisions were trained, including Waffen-SS units.

I've never been there, but I recall some folks I met who had been there.. They told me it was the only place they had sufficient room to perform their "tank table VIII" (don't ask) proficiency training...
