I do not own my server. I use Dellhost and yes, server problems is something that is completely out of my hands since it is based in Atlanta and I am in Nashville. Stuff like this doesn't happen often because they usually have a pretty good tech support team. As far as I understand, it was a network issue and not an individual server problem. That tends to be more difficult to resolve. I know last time that happened it was also a network issue where one of the internet backbone lines they connect to had a problem. It was pretty widespread.

I took a good part of the day off today to go with our 7 year old on her field day and this was not something I liked coming back to with only a little over an hour left in the market. My cable modem was also knocked out (which makes me think this was also a widespread network issue) and I spent most of the last hour making phone calls about the web site and getting my modem back on line to collect data.

I know times like this are a pain in the butt, but I am doing the best I can as I realize there are a number of people that follow the site rigorously. The nice thing is that we have outlined our scenarios pretty well for the last week or so and not much has changed in that time. Today went as expected and all is going according to the outline so there was really nothing unusual to report on anyway.

I am sure situations like this will occur again, though hopefully it will be infrequent. Most sites experience downtime on occasion due to some snafu. My experience has been that this only happens 2-4 times a year and most situations are resolved fairly quickly with little downtime. I have faith in the Dell host team and pay them for technical support which they have always been good at.
