PRO-LAX NOT AFFECTED BY HEALTH CANADA ORDER ON LAXATIVES
DIFFERENT INGREDIENTS THE REASON, SAYS HELIX PRESIDENT
ÿ
Richmond, B.C. - Consumers can rest assured that not all laxative products are affected by the recent Health Canada consumer warning, says Helix BioPharma Corp. President Dr. Terry Owen.
According to a Southam News article, Health Canada is advising consumers to avoid using stimulant laxatives containing an ingredient called phenolphthalein. "Although this ingredient is contained in over 50 products on the market, I am pleased to reassure consumers that our laxative, PRO-LAX, does not contain this ingredient," said Dr Owen. "It continues to be safe to use as directed by your doctor or pharmacist."
In the Southam News article dated July 30th, it was reported that Health Canada's therapeutic products directorate has stated that phenolphthalein "poses a carcinogenic risk that outweighs its medical benefit." The article also states that Health Canada has also ordered all products containing this ingredient off the shelves by August 8th unless the manufacturers can prove they are safe.
"I can certainly understand that there might be a great deal of consumer concern over this news," concluded Owen. "For our part, I can assure consumers that PRO-LAX does not contain the controversial ingredient. As always, we would urge consumers to check with their doctor or pharmacist to get personalized direction and advice should they have any questions on how to use these products safely and effectively."
PRO-LAX is sold through Rivex Pharma, a wholly owned subsidiary of Helix BioPharma Corp. Helix BioPharma Corp. is a growing health-care company focused on the development and commercialization of pharmaceuticals. Headquartered in Richmond, B.C., the Company has offices across Canada and internationally in Ireland, and is publicly-traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
ÿ-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- George, I see the above product is on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart. I spoke with the pharmacist about the product and he was very impressed. I spoke with Terry Owen the other day and my impression is that we will start to see more media coverage and possible further announcements. He is not satisfied with current stock price and indicated that the company would support the stock as an investment opportunity. He will be making a couple of presentations in Toronto to enlighten institutional investors and to precipitate further coverage by stock analysts. The Helix website is one of the best I have seen---very organized with visual and intellectual appeal. Jason is doing a good job of keeping it current and interesting. I have removed my sell order as I think we might see some positive movement soon. Those who got in at 0.60 have done very well. Regards, Dan |
