One of Tony Blair's closest foreign political allies has warned Britain and America that they may live to regret unleashing the "law of the jungle" in international relations when China becomes the dominant world power later this century.
The Labour prime minister of New Zealand, Helen Clark, told the Guardian that Washington and its allies had created a dangerous precedent by going to war without a UN resolution.

ROTFLMAO!!!! I wonder what she has to say about how Saddam failed to ask UN permission to invade Kuwait, as well as his war on Iran??

Or how China failed to ask the UN's permission when they invaded, occupied, and annexed Tibet? Or their attack on Vietnam in 1979?

Or any number of other wars and conflicts that no one bothered to ask the UN's permission for??

I guess that those countries somehow were living by civilized guidelines?

As for China, it HAS BEEN a threat for years, but primarily to nations in the region. But even they have recognized that they must spend less on their military and more on their own internal economy. But population doesn't guarantee economic clout. Were that the case, India would have already become the world's most powerful economy.

Bottom line is that non-democratic governments live by the "law of the jungle", consistently acting in a manner that will push the envelope of civilized behavior and threatening and invading their neighbors.

Glad ol' Helen isn't our head of state.
