Federal Reserve officials meet Tuesday with only a few investors and analysts looking for a cut in their 1.25 percent target for overnight rates.

But there's less agreement over whether the officials will decide that the risk of excessive economic weakness is greater than the risk of more inflation "for the foreseeable future" or that the risks are balanced.

Some analysts persist in thinking this forward-looking statement applies only until the next policymaking session, whereas the officials themselves regard it as applying for the next nine months to more than a year.
