imo argentina doesn't even come close to being a precedent for this. it's been 100 years since anything argentinian qualified as "major" on a global scale. ok, football excepted. -g-

if there is a global meltdown of a genuinely major currency - eg the US dollar - you aren't going to have an electrical bill to pay because you aren't going to have any electricity to use. half the power for NYC comes from Quebec. the food supply itself will be in huge trouble in such an event.

i have personally experienced a dislocation of this magnitude - at least to the locals - and i can assure you gold wasn't nearly as important, tradeable or profitable as container-loads of cigarattes and antibiotics.

i cannot even begin to imagine the hell on earth scenario that would result in a genuine collapse of the US dollar.
