SPX follow -up M & A activity has been in the doldrums lately. Even with borrowing costs at favorable rates. I see a glimmer with some recent deals positioning for an upturn in the economy. For GE its no problem, they have been a buyer right through the recession and market downturn. For a company now with cash. You can most likely buy back your stock, reduce high priced debt, or reinvest it. Treasury's earning todays rates. I don't see it!

SPX in its presentation Monday outlined its strategy for selling some units, saying it aims to divest itself of "non-strategic assets that are a better fit with other companies."

This should fortify liquidity and sharpen SPX's focus on investments that boost economic value and on strategic growth platforms, it said.
