Jeffords won't make the same mistake again: "...in an act of undeserved generosity towards the White House, Jeffords did not make his party-switch effective until after the President's big tax cut, which Jeffords voted for, had safely passed the Senate. Now the Vermont Senator says: "That was a mistake, one that I will not make it again." Referring to the "growth package" label that the Administration has slapped on its latest tax cuts, Jeffords commented: "the only thing guaranteed to grow is the federal budget deficit, something Republicans used to care about and I still do."
