I wasn't making a blanket statement about what happens when people split up. Of course everyone handles such things differently. I was trying to find another example wherein the source of the tension, the thing at the crux, could remain while for extraneous reasons the tension is dispelled. The example was an illustration of the crux principal, not to illustrate what you or anyone should or would do regarding custody...sheesh.

To illustrate that there is always a "crux" when opposing forces are involved in a tension; and while the crux may remain, the tension may not. We are no longer embroiled in tension on whether or not cooperation in weapons inspections is important, yet the issue is still important, and everyone cares about it.
