To be fair, I don't think it is a question worth asking, as he is certainly one of the least effective humans on the planet [if he is still with us]. He probably destoryed more wealth than imaginable, so the fact that he didn't hold gold but rather $US is not meaningful to me as a gold bull...

Yes, the $US is the most crowded trade in the history of the planet IMO. Even Sadaam owned it!! Think of that... even he owned it... that's crowded.

Of course my timing may not be perfect... [well, actually it's been pretty damn good, but I will certainly chalk that up to luck].... OTOH, there is a graveyard full of economists that have been warning of the $US reserve status being unstable over time. My bet is they're not all idiots, just as you say: 'bad timing'
