'The really crappy aspect was the gloating that went on about it as the US's allies tried to separate their resentment about the tariffs whilst the US sought sympathy for 911 and material support for the fight against terrorism.'
Yes, well said ... when those towers came down we here in BC dropped completely as an issue the pine lobby's tariffs, even though they had been hitting us hard for over a month at that point, following an escalation of threats out of Washington since the first of that year ... were we onside against terrorism, oh you betcha, we had been attacked as well, is how we saw it .... then in that October, six weeks only after the WTC came down, we awake one morning to find that Bush administration priority had been to drive us into the ground, they were more than doubling the tariffs
Twenty-four canadians died in those towers ... the premier of our province had both of his sons within one mile, one working in Manhattan and the other visiting on 11.09.01 .... we never saw that as an attack on one nation only, and it wasn't - NYC is a city of the continent, of the species, a great commercial capital ... there were casualties from over eighty nations ... so when one bunch of backroom boyz uses the event to push their personal agenda, yes we will point out their absurdity
Yesterday John said something like 'Canada is not onside against terror', and i didn't have time to type then .... well that is another bushista crock - we are very much involved with the war against terror, we have been since the beginning, and we continue to be ... we had troops in Afghanistan, and we soon will again, they're going in on scheduled rotation, with the germans ... it's the RCN that has been guarding the straits of Hormuz for many months now .... there has been full cooperation with intelligence, police, and inmigration services [which is only logical, duh] ..... so it is an out and out falsehood that we are not onside against terror
It was when the Bush II regime dropped the war against terror, in favour of destroying international institutions for the settling of international disputes, and began a programme of unilateral invasion of sovereign nations, that's where we said wait a minute, perhaps these things should not be decided wholly by small groups of men in the back rooms of any single national capital ... even, yes, dare we speak the name - Washington
So then we asked ourselves - are they with us, or are they against us ..... hmmm, well we shall see, eh |
