The US cannot speak for the world -- but the US can force its will on the world with military force, at least in the short run. Terrorism begins with hatred. By resorting to military force over the opposition of the major players in the world community and by invading and occupying a country in the middle east, we help fuel hatred, and we help promote terrorism. People hate our arrogance. They hate our use of raw power. And they hate our occupation of an oil-rich country whose values differ substantially from our own.
