Asteroid catastrophes? The news mavens got a lot of traction out of an event that seems to occur once every sixty millio years or so.

Maybe every 60 million years maybe even less often but if it does happen it could wipe out millions, or if big enough wipe us all out.

Its not like I spend much time worrying about it because the odds of it effecting me are so low, but it is a good idea to put some effort in to planning to prevent such an impact.

Small pox? Eliminated from the planet except for two well guarded stocks. But you couldn't tell it from the news

I think there is some doubt as to those being the only two stocks. Still I don't think its likely that Al-Qaeda or a similar group will get their hands on any.

I agree with your overall point. Many people, including people in the media, don't understand relative risks.
