not so much a case, but here's a question.

the first wave of boomers heading for retirement are without a doubt the most loaded generation of future retirees this country has ever seen. those folks won the generational lottery big time.

so the big question in my mind is this: will they blow all that loot on reverse-mortgages to pay off credit card bills run up at Williams-Sonoma, or will they spend it on high-value-add things like, i don't even know what, nano-engineered artery stents or whatever?

if it's the former, we're f'ed, if it's the latter, we have a chance to work our way out of the present difficulties one more time without too too much pain.

but i think that would be the last hurrah: all societies eventually crumble under their own weight and the next supercycle or whatever should be it for this go 'round of the American Experience(tm).
