Which raises the question, who would you meet when you went? Who makes certain that the folk who solicit meetings are who they say they are? Etc. Worries me.

But the concept of using the internet in this manner to get like minded folk together sounds like an idea whose time has come.

I keep thinking I'm going to have to read Howard Rheingold's most recent book, SmartMobs. I'm told it addresses a lot of the issues around these political organizing uses of the internet.
