Not I about Joseph Campbell. I am not terribly familiar with his work - familiar, but not very familiar.

The last big name I mentioned about comparative religion was Frazer of Golden Bough fame.

I didn't really want to get into the political ramifications of hijab, either. I've been arguing a lot on Free Republic about the liberty interests involved in wearing hijab -- I see it as a liberty issue in places like Germany and France, which prohibit it in certain contexts.

I equate it with Christian crosses, Jewish Mogen Davids, yarmulkes, sidelocks, wigs, and the like, and Sikh turbans -- public displays of personal belief which apparently are very offensive to modern states.
