James,

My apolgogies to you.

I naturally assumed that a man who has killed over a million people, used gas weapons, has made attempts to develop nuclear weapons, refused to cooperate with UN inspectors and commited numerous war crimes and torture would be as despicable to you as he would to me. And that those things would be sufficient prima facie evidence to warrant a hard line that includes a set time limitation for him to comply completely with UN resolutions.

I certainly regret the deaths of innocent peoples, but given Saddam Hussein's brutal history it seems reasonable to suppose that many more would've died at the hands of his regime in the years to come. At least that appears to be the way the Iraqis see it. They seem genuinely grateful for Hussein's demise. Aren't they the ones whose opinions should matter in this issue?
