It's the truth. The dietary laws keep the people separate from folk who have other beliefs. Are you sure filthy is not meant in the same context as "filthy infidel." Morally filthy. I'm certain that in the jewish belief system, observant jews do not eat pork because it is an arbitrary edict from God, not because the meat or animal is filthy. That is why all biblical teachings or obligations (from a hebrew perspective) are open to the scrutiny of logical debate, the dietary laws are not.

Jewish religious leaders I've spoken to agree the dietary laws isolate believers from nonbelievers.
