Canada and the U.S. are close friends and allies but we are an independent country. I think it might help some who find it hard to understand what happened, to imagine that the Democrats controlled Canada and did not want to cooperate with a Republican President. The only difference is that the Dem's would be a right wing party in Canada. Lots of Canadians oppose our governments decisions just like many Americans opposed what Clinton did when he was in power. In Canada we don't have an effective Senate and so our ability to change a decision once it's made is limited. We desperately need some reforms in our system but human nature being what it is, nobody wants to relinquish the power they have, they want more.
