you can track if the co. actually bought back shares in the financial statements...in the equity section of the balance sheet, there is a category called Treasury Stocks...look at this Qs Balance sheet then look at next Q

Book Value is acctg term...Assets minus Liabilities...represents residual value to equity holders after payment to creditors of all the assets...to get book per share...look at Equity amount on the balance sheet and divide by shares outstanding...both are provided in Q report
