in a way, it's almost better if QSI was all boondoggles, because that means it is just the fault of a stupid management which could (theoretically) be replaced. but if one takes the perspective that QSI was (and is) truly necessary for CDMA penetration, then indeed i believe it is inextricably linked to the operating results.

I dont think you have anything to worry about....QSI has been nothing but a spectacular series of boondoggles that really couldnt have been designed to produce fewer CDMA subscribers than it has.

There are 146 million CDMA subscribers in the world today.

The following is a list of QSI investments and the number of subscribers that they have gained....I am sure that I will miss a couple, but I doubt that they would add up to much. The number of subs is approximate but should be in the ballpark.

Subscribers
Pegaso 1.5 million
Globalstar 80,000
Netzero 0
Vesper 500,000
Zapp 100,000
Leap 1.2 million
Nextwave 0

These are just the carriers that I can think of off the top of my head....there is a similair list of infrastructure suppliers that have probably produced pretty close to zero in total revenues (Airvana, ComDev). I sincerely doubt that CDMA's viability has been impacted in the least by having the additional 3 million subscribers.

The drop in QSI funding will have zero impact on Qualcomm's business....but a pretty big effect on Q's cashflow.
