Cary, you got me. It seems to me that we have thus far had a real drop off in equipment orders as chip companies take advantage of the efficiencies they already have in place in conjunction with excess capacity. Companies are leaner now too which helps with profits but those profits would be lower if they spent too much for new equipment.

In other words it seems unlikely to me that equipment orders will pick up much until demand begins to really increase rather than simply increase slightly at best as it has done so far.

That does not mean that the stock market cannot continue higher based on a hoped for increase in demand that may or may not take place later this year. It simply means to me that demand for new equipment will be slower than it would be if we had a rapid business led economic recovery underway.
