On Parallel Universes and Quantum Mechanics:

Thanks for the tip and I will be sure to read them later on.

Although the parallel universe idea has had a lot of appeal to many scientists, personally I've never found it acceptable. My favorite leading edge quantum theory is unorthodox (has there ever been an orthodox one?) but is a far more reasonable theory, imo. The key concept is abandoning the unidirectional time. The theory states that when an event occurs, two sets of signals are sent. The one moving forward in time is what we normally associate with the flow of cause and effect. The other is a backwards moving signal which cancels out the alternate quantum states of past events. In effect the present reality is summation of both signals (forward moving signal from the past and backwards moving signal of the future). When we talk about the past, what we are saying that our present self is recalling the one past that was not destroyed by the backwards moving signals of future events. At the first glance this seems to negate the concept of free will. But in reality such is not the case. (if I recall, this is best known as David Bohm's pilot wave theory). I understand that to those unfamiliar with quantum theory this sounds like crazy talk. But I assure you several respected scientists are behind it. You can read about it at the end of Schrodinger's Kittens and the Search for Reality amazon.com

...isn't it amazing that scientists have no problem accepting messages from the future or multiple universes, but cringe at the suggestion that our actions are anything but automatic responses of bio-chemical matter to simple stimuli?
