I expect Americans to be the best educated people on the planet- I'm disappointed they are not (Obviously a difference between the right and the left. Bridge Player is not disappointed by any of this, apparently.)
I expect America to be a country where everyone, regardless of race, sexual orientation, religion, whatever, is able to grow and prosper. I'm disappointed in our rate of incarceration of Black and Latino men, and I'm disappointed in the disparities in income between white men and women, and between white men and women and men and women of color. (Obviously a difference between the right and the left. Bridge Player is not disappointed in any of this apparently.)
I am disappointed in our attempts to serve poor children, and raise them from the cycle of poverty into which they were born. (Obviously a difference between the right and the left. Bridge Player is not disappointed in any of this apparently.)
I am disappointed in our commitment to the youth of today. I am disappointed in the material culture that we foist upon our teenagers, without much thought, and I'm very disappointed we leave them unsupervised as their parents pursue the almighty dollar- in order to support their SUV's and Mc Mansions. I am disappointed in the amount of sex and violence, masquerading as entertainment, that most Americans allow their children to imbibe. I am disappointed in the lack of responsibility that Americans take for their children, and for their teenagers. (Obviously a difference between the right and the left. Bridge Player is not disappointed in any of this apparently.)
There are many many other things we could be doing much better- and where we fail, as Americans, I am disappointed in us, as Americans. Clearly the right isn't very good about correcting the deficiencies in our society- yet another reason they should be booted out of office ASAP. |
